India has been elected to lead the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) as President for the 2025–2028 term.
Overview of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences
Established in 1930, the IIAS is a global federation comprising 31 member countries, 20 national sections, and 15 academic research centers, working together to develop innovative solutions for contemporary public administration challenges.
Membership: Key member nations include India, Japan, China, Germany, Italy, Korea, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Switzerland, Mexico, Spain, Qatar, Morocco, Indonesia, and others.
Objectives:
Facilitate collaborative and strategic initiatives with members and partners.
Accredit academic and professional training programs aligned with best practices in public management.
Generate and disseminate comprehensive resources on public governance research and practices for diverse audiences.
The IIAS maintains a strong partnership with the United Nations, actively contributing to the UN’s Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) and the UN Public Administration Network (UNPAN), though it is not formally affiliated with the UN.
India’s Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances has represented the country as a member state of the IIAS since 1998. This marks the first instance of India securing the prestigious IIAS Presidency.
