Yesterday evening [October 15] the Hon. Mr. Justice T.V. Seshagiri Aiyar, President of the Madras Social Service League, performed the very pleasant function of opening the new day and night school which the league had started for the benefit of the fishermen residing at Nochikuppam at the southern end of the marina. Among those present were: Mr. T.V. Gopalaswamy Aiyar, Mr. S. Muthia Mudaliar, Mr. K. Govinda Marar, Mr. T.M. Krishnaswamy Aiyar and others. The leading men of the community for whose benefit the school was run were also present and helped a good deal in making the function success. In the absence of Mr. K. Sankarasubba Aiyar, High Court Vakil, who was in charge of the work in the area one of the gentlemen present briefly explained the origin of the school and its present working. Mr. Justice Seshagiri Aiyar in declaring the school open gave the men some useful advice on education and cooperation, and as to how they could improve their position.
