Location:
- Northern Europe; an inland sea of the Atlantic Ocean.
- Surrounded by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden.
Physical Features:
- Shallow and almost landlocked → low salinity (brackish water).
- Connected to the North Sea through the Kattegat–Skagerrak straits via the Danish Straits.
- Important gulfs: Gulf of Finland, Gulf of Bothnia, Gulf of Riga.
- Major rivers draining: Vistula, Oder, Neva, Daugava.
