Concept :

  • Dooars, also spelled Duars, is a region of alluvial floodplains in Eastern India and southern Bhutan The name comes from the word “door” in various local languages, referencing its location as a gateway to Bhutan.
  • Dooars lies at the foothills of the Himalayas, forming a lush green belt between the mountains and the Brahmaputra River basin. It stretches for roughly 350 kilometers (220 mi) from the Teesta River in West Bengal to the Dhansiri River in Assam.

  • Biodiversity : Dooars is a haven for wildlife, encompassing forests, grasslands, and river ecosystems. It’s home to elephants, tigers, rhinos, deer, numerous bird species, and more.
  • Tea Plantations:The region boasts some of India’s finest tea plantations, known for their high-quality produce. The landscape is dotted with sprawling tea estates.
  • Scenic Beauty: Dooars offers stunning natural beauty, with cascading rivers, mountain views, and lush vegetations.
  • Cultural Heritage: The region is home to diverse tribal communities with unique traditions and festivals.
  • Dooars is divided into two parts by Sankosh river.
  • Western Dooars : Located in West Bengal, this part is famous for its tea estates, wildlife sanctuaries, and historical sites like Buxa Fort.
  • Eastern Dooars : Situated in Assam, this region is known for its Manas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its rich biodiversity.
