Aim
To promote electric and hybrid vehicles in India by offering incentives and creating charging infrastructure — reducing fossil fuel use and pollution.
Phases
- Phase I (2015–2019): Focus on pilot projects, R&D, and early adoption.
- Phase II (2019–present): ₹10,000 crore outlay to support
- 10 lakh e-2 wheelers
- 5 lakh e-3 wheelers
- 55,000 e-4 wheelers
- 7,000 e-buses
- Charging stations across cities and highways.
Key Features
- Incentives for advanced battery-based EVs (like lithium-ion).
- Focus on public and shared transport (buses, 3-wheelers, taxis).
- Localization requirement for vehicles and components.
- Development of charging stations (1 every 3×3 km in cities, every 25 km on highways).
