Farmers, tribals call off protest after State accepts demands

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday directed the State machinery to work on “mission mode” to solve the pending cases under the Forest Rights Act to extend justice to tribals and ensure farm land is given to them. The government has also agreed to review progress on these cases every three months.With major demands accepted and the government giving it all in writing, the organisers of the Lok Sangharsh Morcha called off the protest on Thursday night.Mr. Fadnavis held a meeting with representatives from the tribals’ and farmers’ protest march on Wednesday that congregated at south Mumbai’s Azad Maidan on Thursday morning.The protesters were demanding effective implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, compensation for the drought and farm loan waiver
