Journalists gather in solidarity with #MeToo

‘Implementlaws against harassment’
Demanding implementation of laws pertaining to sexual harassment in workplaces and constitution of designated committees, a group of journalists on Saturday gathered at Parliament Street in solidarity with the #MeToo movement. Applauding the courage of several women who have spoken about their traumatic experiences at their workplace, the protesters said it was imperative that media houses and organisations implement the existing laws against sexual harassment. Indian Women’s Press Corps (IWPC) president T.K. Rajalakshmi said, “Sexual harassment and abuse is non-acceptable and non-negotiable. All organisations should ensure that proper committees are constituted and each complaint is investigated. Around 10 women have levelled allegations against M.J. Akbar and despite that he is still a Minister. The government that says “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” should follow the same too.” Undersigned as “The Collective”, several women from the advertising and design field have also written an open letter against sexual harassment at workplaces.
