Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said violent attacks on migrant workers in Gujarat were because of the frustration among unemployed youth and asserted that the migrant workforce is ‘critical’ for economic growth. He said the Vijay Rupani government had failed to stop the violence against North Indian workers. “Across Gujarat, poor economic policies, demonetisation and poorly executed GST (Goods and Services Tax) have devastated industry resulting in the shutting down of factories and industrial units, leading to massive unemployment,” Mr. Gandhi said in a Facebook post. The Congress chief claimed youth were angry and frustrated with the government’s inability to create jobs. “This anger and frustration is being manifested in violent attacks on migrants, across Gujarat,” he said.
