Mouling National Park is a significant protected area in Arunachal Pradesh, India, renowned for its rich biodiversity and ecological importance.

Location & Geography
  • Situated in: Upper Siang district, with extensions into West Siang and East Siang districts.
  • Area: Approximately 483 km².
  • Altitude Range: 750 to 3,064 meters, encompassing diverse terrains from tropical valleys to alpine peaks.
  • Hydrology: The park is drained by several rivers, including the Siyom River along its western boundary, and other rivers like Siring, Krobong, Semong, and Subong, which merge into the Siang River near the park’s eastern edge.
Flora
  • Vegetation Types: The park exhibits a transition from tropical evergreen forests at lower altitudes to temperate alpine and coniferous forests at higher elevations.
  • Notable Plant Species: Ornamental plants like foxtail orchids are abundant, contributing to the park’s floral diversity.
Fauna
  • Mammals: Home to species such as the red panda, Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, takin, goral, barking deer, serow, and clouded leopard.
  • Birds: The park hosts a variety of bird species, including hornbills and pheasants, making it a haven for birdwatchers.
  • Reptiles: Species like the king cobra and Indian rock python are found here, reflecting the park’s herpetofaunal diversity.
Ecological Significance
  • Biodiversity Hotspot: Part of the Eastern Himalayas, the park is within the Dihang-Dibang Biosphere Reserve, recognized for its unique biodiversity.
  • Conservation Efforts: Initiatives like the Global Park Defense and Community Protection program aim to safeguard the park’s ecosystems and involve local communities in conservation.
Accessibility & Tourism
  • Access Points: The park is remote with limited road connectivity. Nearest towns include Along (Aalo) and Pasighat. The nearest airport is in Pasighat, and the closest railway station is Murkongselek.
  • Best Time to Visit: October to January, when the weather is conducive for trekking and wildlife observation.
  • Activities: Trekking routes from villages like Bomdo and Ramsing offer opportunities to explore the park’s natural beauty, including waterfalls like Dabung and Nirbung.
