Operation Sindoor

Recent Update:

The Indian Armed Forces recently carried out Operation Sindoor, a carefully planned retaliatory strike targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Precision Strike and Target Engagement

• The operation involved the targeting of 21 terrorist camps spread across 9 locations using advanced precision-guided munitions.
• These strikes were executed with pinpoint accuracy to ensure maximum impact while minimizing collateral damage.
• The weapons used were part of India’s high-precision, long-range arsenal, developed to neutralize high-value threats effectively.

Key Weapon Systems Deployed

HAMMER (Highly Agile and Manoeuvrable Munition Extended Range)

• Origin: France
• Platform: Integrated with Rafale fighter jets
• Range: Up to 70 km
• Features:
  • Precision strike in all weather conditions
  • Autonomous navigation
  • Resistant to electronic jamming
  • Effective at low altitudes and in rugged terrains
• Recently procured by India to bolster deep-strike capabilities.

SCALP (Système de Croisière Autonome à Longue Portée) / Storm Shadow

• Type: Long-range, air-launched stealth cruise missile
• Range: Approximately 450 km
• Capabilities:
  • Terrain-hugging flight profile for stealth
  • Navigation via INS, GPS, and terrain mapping
  • Designed for precision attacks on fortified targets

METEOR (Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile – BVRAAM)

• Manufacturer: MBDA
• Engine: Solid-fuel ramjet, enabling a long No-Escape Zone
• Environment: Performs effectively in electronic warfare scenarios
• Use: Ideal for eliminating enemy aircraft before visual contact

BRAHMOS Supersonic Cruise Missile

• Jointly developed by India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPOM
• Speed: Up to Mach 2.8–3.0
• Range: Enhanced to approximately 450–500 km after India joined the MTCR
• Features:
  • Fire-and-forget technology
  • Deployable from land, sea, and air platforms
  • Warhead: Between 200–300 kg
  • Terminal flight capability as low as 10 meters

Loitering Munitions (Kamikaze Drones)

• Equipped with surveillance and strike abilities, these drones can hover over areas of interest and attack when a target is confirmed.
• Designed for high-precision, time-sensitive strikes.
• Being inducted into Army, Navy, and Air Force for enhanced tactical flexibility.
