Petrol nears Rs. 91 in Mumbai

Transport fuel prices continued to rise on Sunday, with petrol inching closer to Rs. 91 a litre mark in Mumbai. Petrol touched Rs. 90.84 per litre, up from Rs. 90.75 on Saturday, data on the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) website showed. Petrol prices in Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai on Sunday stood at Rs. 83.49, Rs. 85.30 and Rs. 86.80 per litre respectively. With petroleum still excluded from the GST regime, prices vary according to local taxes. Delhi has the lowest tax among the four major metros. The increase in transport fuel rates comes amid surging crude oil prices. Currently, Brent crude oil is priced around $83 per barrel. The price of subsidised cooking gas (LPG) was hiked by Rs. 2.89 per cylinder to Rs. 502.4 per cylinder. The price of non-subsidised LPG at Delhi will increase by Rs. 59 per cylinder in October mainly due to the change in international price and foreign exchange fluctuations, the IOC said in a statement. The actual impact on subsidised domestic LPG customers is only Rs. 2.89 per cylinder, which is mainly due to GST on the above, the IOC added. The subsidy transfer in customers’ bank account has been increased to Rs. 376.60 per cylinder in October as against Rs. 320.49 per cylinder in September.
