Petrol prices touch dizzy heights

The prices of petrol and diesel on Saturday touched a new high, with Mumbai recording the highest among the four big metros. Petrol cost Rs. 89.01 a litre in Mumbai and diesel Rs. 78.07, according to the daily price notification issued by state-owned oil marketing companies. In Delhi, the price of petrol was Rs.81.63and diesel Rs.73.54, which is a record, though the lowest among the four metros. Petrol prices have gone up about 6% since August 1, while diesel prices have been up 8% in the same period. The fuel prices are likely to go up further as price of Brent oil was still hovering over $78 a barrel.
