Context
- Educate Girls, an Indian non-profit organisation dedicated to improving access to education for underprivileged girls, has been named one of the three recipients of the Ramon Magsaysay Award 2025.
- The other two awardees are Shaahina Ali (Maldives) and Flaviano Antonio L. Villanueva (Philippines).
Why Educate Girls Was Honoured
- The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation recognised Educate Girls for its “groundbreaking work in addressing gender inequality in education across India’s rural and remote regions”.
- Its model has created a ripple effect, strengthening families, communities, and broader society.
Work and Achievements
- Began operations in Rajasthan.
- Identified the most marginalised communities where girls’ education levels were critically low.
About the Ramon Magsaysay Award
- Instituted in 1958 to celebrate “greatness of spirit and transformative leadership in Asia”.
- Often considered Asia’s Nobel Prize.
- Since inception, over 300 individuals and organisations across Asia have been recognised.
