A grade separator at the Karnataka Polytechnic Junction and an overpass at Nanthoor Junction here will be built under the Sagar Mala Project, according to Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, Dakshina Kannada. Speaking at a function organised by Mangaluru City Corporation to launch 27 new development projects and inaugurate 13 completed projects here on Wednesday, Mr. Kateel said that the detailed project report to further upgrade the 37-km National Highway stretch between BC Road and Surathkal under Sagar Mala Project is ready. The project proposal comprises constructing parallel flyovers, additional underpasses, widening of the highways at identified stretches, reconstructing the bridges and strengthening the highways and service roads. A major work proposed is to upgrade a seven-kilometre tar stretch between Baikampady and Lohitnagar in the city as an 11-m wide concrete road. It is considering the heavy traffic on the stretch. The carriageway (on which vehicles run) of the remaining 30-km stretch would be further strengthened as tar road. Mr. Kateel said that Navayuga Udupi Tollway Pvt. Ltd., which is upgrading National Highway 66 between Talapady and Kundapur, has in a meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in Delhi on August 27 said that it would complete the flyovers at Pumpwell and Thokkottu by the end of January 2019.
