SC Collegium clears 3 HC judges

Recalls recommendation The Collegium bowed to the wishes of the government and recalled its recommendation of advocate Amit Negi for appointment as judge of the Allahabad High Court. The Collegium had earlier cleared his name, but the government had asked the CJI to re-consider the recommendation in the light of fresh inputs and “observations made by the Department of Justice in the file”. Similarly, the Collegium has acquiesced to the wishes of the government in the case of three lawyers, two of whom it had earlier recommended for appointment as judges to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. The Collegium had approved advocates Wasim Sadiq Nargal and Nazir Ahmad Beig for appointment on April 6, 2018. But the government referred the names back for re-consideration. Bombay, Calcutta HC In the Bombay High Court, the Collegium has recommended the appointment of judicial officer P.V. Ganediwala as judge of the Bombay High Court while remitting the name of S.B. Agrawal, another judicial officer, back to the Bombay High Court Chief Justice. The Collegium recommended the appointment of advocate Sandipan Ganguly and Manojit Mondal, a judicial officer, for appointment as judges of the Calcutta High Court.
