Context
- The Sixth Schedule (Articles 244(2) and 275(1)) contains special provisions for the administration of tribal areas in the North-Eastern states.
- Its aim is to protect tribal autonomy, culture, and rights while ensuring self-governance.

- Assam
- Meghalaya

Key Features
- Autonomous District Councils (ADCs):
- Each tribal area is constituted as an Autonomous District.
- ADCs can further divide districts into Autonomous Regions if multiple tribes exist.

- ADCs have up to 30 members:

Significance
