Software to monitor teachers’ academic work regularly
Teachers in Osmania University will be made more responsible in their academic delivery as the administration can now monitor their teaching, research guidance and project work on a regular basis with the establishment of Faculty Information System. The university has designed a software that has the details of every teacher — either on the rolls or on contract basis to monitor what they are teaching, on regular basis. It also has information on the guidance to research scholars as teachers have to regularly update themselves apart from the projects they are working on, the Vice-Chancellor, S. Ramchandram said. As a part of the exercise teachers have been asked to submit detailed teaching plans giving information on what they would teach during the semester, assignments and schedule of tests that should be given to the students, in advance. Moreover, the teachers also have to highlight five objectives of the subject to be taught and how the outcome will benefit the students. “This is like preparing a student holistically and infusing seriousness into teaching,” the Vice-Chancellor said. To increase accountability among the teachers, students are being asked to give their feedback on their teachers’ work. A detailed analysis of the feedback will be made to find the strengths and weaknesses, to be passed on to the teachers at the end of the semester. As a university with a huge list of achievements, it now plans to mentor government colleges on preparing for accreditation. “This year we will be guiding five government degree colleges on preparing the document to be presented for accreditation by the national agencies,” the V-C said. The UGC has advised the government colleges to go for accreditation in a phased manner to improve standards and in future disbursal of funds will depend on the quality of the colleges.
