U.P. govt. to showcase heritage

Plans ‘Vichar Kumbhs’ to connect with youth, women, Dalits and OBCs in the run-up to the 2019 poll
With an eye on the coming Lok Sabha elections, the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh plans to hold a series of Vichar (thought) Kumbhs as part of its effort to showcase the State as a hub of ancient heritage, while at the same time connecting with youth, women, Dalits and OBCs. To be held ahead of January’s Allahabad Mahakumbh, the Vichar Kumbhs would be held at five historical towns of the State with five distinct themes: Samajik Samrasta (social complementarity), issues concerning the youth, women’s empowerment, environment and social service, an organiser of one of these conclaves said on Tuesday.

Five universities in the State would host the conclaves, with up to 5,000 delegates expected to attend each of the meets, Shatrudra Pratap, one of the organisers of the Vichar Kumbhs, told The Hindu . The Vichar Kumbh on youth affairs, to be held at the Lucknow University on December 22-23, is expected to draw about 5,000 delegates from India and abroad, according to Mr. Pratap. Delegates would include students, teachers and professionals. The Samrasta (or social complementarity) Kumbh will be held on December 16 at Ayodhya, and delegates would include people from various caste groups — Dalits, OBCs and upper castes — and tribes from all over the country.
