War Graves

A meeting of the Imperial War Graves Commission held [in London] on July 24th at which Lord Islington, Sir William Garstin, Mr. Rudyard Kipling and others were present adopted the recommendations of the Committee consisting of Lord Islington, W.P. Schreiner, Sahibzada Ahmed Aftabakhan and Sir Pattani which had been appointed to consider special questions arising with regard to the graves of Indian soldiers. One of the recommendations was that Sir E. Lutchens and Herbert Baker should prepare designs for a mosque and temple to be erected in France as memorials to all Indians fallen in France and Belgium in the war, and instructions given that designs for memorial buildings should be prepared for approval by the Commission.
