Yamaha staff agree to end strike

Talks end; company to allow them to report for duty from Friday
Employees of Yamaha Motor India Limited, who had abstained from work from September 21, will be allowed to report for duty from Friday. A decision to this effect was arrived at in a meeting convened by the district administration with the participation of the YMIL representatives and a group of employees led by State CITU president A. Soundararajan at the District Collectorate on November 14. At the meeting, according to the CITU leader, it was mutually agreed that any issues relating to the YMIL workers would be discussed by the management with the workers’ representatives duly elected by the permanent employees and no action would be initiated against the workers who participated in the 55-day strike. While the striking employees would have to forego their salary for the duration of the strike, a bonus amount would be released to them once they submit a letter seeking entry of their respective names in the ‘punching system’ on the day of joining duty.
Dismissed staff
As far as the two dismissed employees are concerned, the dismissal order would be revoked and they would be placed under suspension in order to face an internal inquiry. However, they were eligible to draw their salary till the completion of the internal inquiry with a concession that they would not be subjected to dismissal from service, he added. Further, all the cases that were raised before the Labour Court and the criminal cases against 12 employees would be withdrawn, Mr. Soundararajan said.
