Yojana brings out issue on jobs

At a time when the Opposition is using the dipping employment data as a stick to beat the government with, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has brought out a special issue of its annual journal, Yojana , on “Employment and self-employment”. The issue reportedly aims at clearing the air on employment-related data to emphasise that self-employment, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly said, is increasing. “The theme for the special Issue on “Employment and self-employment” was selected based on the recent reports and observations by economists, that employment-related data did not accurately reflect the status of employment and employment generation in our country,” a press note from the Ministry said. The publication has articles written by the Secretaries to the Government of India, experts from professional organisations such as FICCI and the think tank NITI Aayog. The special issue deals with the need for credible employment data, advantages of payroll reporting, creating livelihood opportunities in urban and rural areas, MSMEs as new engines of employment, entrepreneurship as a key to employment generation, dimensions of the Indian labour market and so on.
