The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme aligns with India’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047 and supports the global shift from Women’s Development to Women-Led Development.
About BBBP Scheme:
- Ministries Involved:
- Joint initiative by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Ministry of Education.
- Additional support from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Ministry of Minority Affairs.
- Part of Sambal under Mission Shakti, which focuses on strengthening women’s safety, security, and empowerment.
- Sub-schemes:
- Sambal and Samarthya.
Key Aims:
- Improve Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) by 2 points annually.
- Ensure 95% or more institutional deliveries.
- Achieve a 1% annual increase in secondary education enrolment and skill development for girls and women.
- Reduce dropout rates among girls in secondary and higher secondary education.
- Raise awareness on safe Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM).
- The scheme does not include provisions for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) or the creation of capital assets under the scheme.
- It contributes to India’s long-term development goals by addressing gender disparities in education, healthcare, and empowerment.
