Context:
Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has introduced the Bima Sakhi Yojana to empower women through financial incentives and career development.
Scheme Overview:
- Target Group: Exclusively for women aged 18–70 with a minimum educational qualification of Class 10.
- Ineligibility: Relatives of current or former LIC agents and employees are excluded.
- Support Structure: Includes financial stipends and commissions to promote insurance literacy and outreach.
Financial Incentives:
- Stipend of ₹7,000 (Year 1), ₹6,000 (Year 2), ₹5,000 (Year 3).
- First-year commission fixed at ₹48,000 (excluding bonuses).
Career Progression:
- Also known as “Mahila Career Agents,” aiming to onboard over 2 lakh women in three years.
- Upon training completion, Bima Sakhis can become full-time LIC agents.
- After five years, eligible Sakhis can apply for Apprentice Development Officer (ADO) positions within LIC.
