Exhibition of Shivaji Maharaj Paintings

Event:

To commemorate the 350th anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation, an exhibition featuring 115 oil paintings was organized by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) and the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA).

Guidance: The paintings were created under the guidance of Padma Vibhushan Babasaheb Purandare.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj:

  • Coronation: Crowned as the king of the Marathas on 6th June 1674 at Raigad.
  • Birth: Born on 19th February 1630 at Shivneri Fort in Pune district.
  • Parents:
    • Father: Shahaji Bhonsle, a Maratha general under the Bijapur Sultanate.
    • Mother: Jijabai.
  • Titles: Took on the titles of Chhatrapati, Shakakarta, Kshatriya Kulavantas, and Haindava Dharmodhhaarak.
