Flood situation in Godavari delta still grim

18,000 shifted to relief camps; heavy property loss in 71 villages
The flood situation in East and West Godavari districts continued to be grim as the Godavari river received heavy inflows in the last 24 hours, necessitating the issue of second-level warning at Arthur Cotton barrage in Dowleswaram and maintenance of high alert in other vulnerable areas.
The inflow at Dowleswaram was about 13.44 lakh cusecs at noon and outflow was the same. A total of 280 villages in 24 mandals across the Godavari districts are affected and over 75,000 people were affected by the floods.
Nearly 18,000 people were shifted to relief camps in E.G district and 47 medical camps were organised in W.G.
About 36,000 food packets were distributed in E.G district which bore the brunt of floods. Rajahmundry, Seethanagaram and Devipatnam mandals were particularly affected by the floods and water entered the low-lying areas in Yanam district of the Union Territory of Puducherry.
Transportation to 19 villages has been cut off and Yedduvagu and Siddharamavagu bridges were submerged and property damages were reported from 71 villages in the Godavari districts.
Essential commodities were distributed to the affected people in the delta villages.
The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has cautioned people living in the Godavari island villages and canal banks of heightened danger as the river received heavy inflows due to intermittent rains.
Srisailam level rises
The Revenue and Police Departments were tasked with rehabilitation of people from the flood-hit areas in East and West Godavari districts while more rains were forecast at many places in coastal A.P. in the next few days.Teams of the National Disaster Response Force and SDRF were sent out on rescue and relief operations as the water levels were at dangerous levels. Meanwhile, the Srisailam dam has been receiving flood waters from Jurala in Telangana. The inflow was 2.22 lakh cusecs. By evening, the level had risen to 857.60 feet .
