Heavy rain likely today, tomorrow

India Meteorological Department has warned that the coastal districts in the State are likely to receive heavy rain on Thursday and Friday. Rainfall in the districts are likely to exceed 65 mm on Thursday with heavy rainfall in isolated places in the coastal belt. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely on Friday, with rainfall exceeding 115 mm. Fisheries Department has asked fishermen to stay away from fishing on these two days as the sea is likely to witness high waves. “Sea conditions will be rough to very rough (with waves as high as 13 ft-20 ft) over the South-East Arabian Sea and adjoining Comorin-Lakshadweep-Maldives area and along and off the Kerala and South Karnataka coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea in these areas,” the warning said. Commander, Indian Coast Guard, Karnataka, S.S. Dasila said that the Coast Guard is on high alert. A Coast Guard aircraft will be stationed in Mangaluru, he added. Reports reaching here said that three houses in Bantwal taluk were damaged in wall collapse incidents due to rain on Tuesday night. Of these, two houses were in Baltila village and one house was in Nandavara.
