Monsoon now covers entire country, says IMD

Cyclone Vayu delayed advancement
The Southwest monsoon has finally covered the whole country, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a statement on Friday. That makes it four days behind its normal schedule of July 15. “Due to favourable monsoon circulations, there has been light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls over West Rajasthan during the past 24 hours. Thus, the Southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of West Rajasthan and hence covered the entire country today,” the IMD said in a release. This year, the southwest monsoon set over Kerala on June 8, against its normal date of June 1. The delay and the effect of cyclone Vayu substantially delayed the monsoon’s advance into south, central and east India and led toa deficit of about 33%. Rainfall has been significantly below normal in south India, with the shortfall at almost 27%.
