Officials from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and Food & Drug Administration on Wednesday (FDA) visited some facilities of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) to take samples of baby powder to test them for the presence of cancer-causing asbestos. This follows a recent Reuters report on the presence of carcinogenic substances in J&J’s baby powder. Official word “Today, a few of our facilities were visited by the CDSCO and local FDA authorities and we are fully co-operating with them by providing tests and samples,” a J&J spokesperson said in a statement. “The characterisation of these visits as ‘raids’ or ‘seizures’ is incorrect as has been reported in some instances. The tests have been conducted in the regular way that the FDA collects samples,” the spokesperson added. “We unequivocally stand by the safety of our products, are fully compliant with regulatory standards and requirements in India and will continue to work with the regulatory authorities,” the J&J spokesperson said.
