Context:
The Ministry of Heavy Industries’ proposal for the “PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme” has been approved. This scheme aims to advance electric vehicle (EV) adoption and enhance related infrastructure.
Objectives:
- Accelerate EV Adoption: Facilitate a quicker transition to electric vehicles through upfront purchase incentives and investment in charging infrastructure.
- Support Diverse Vehicle Categories: Promote electric vehicles across various categories, including two-wheelers (e-2Ws), three-wheelers (e-3Ws), ambulances, buses, and trucks.
- Enhance Charging Infrastructure: Address range anxiety by funding the installation of new fast chargers.
- Integrate EVs into Healthcare: Allocate funds specifically for electric ambulances, supporting greener healthcare solutions.
Significance:
- Environmental Benefits: Expected to reduce air pollution and reliance on fossil fuels significantly.
