Context
The Government of India has urged automobile companies to join the unified Right to Repair Portal India. On National Consumer Rights Day 2022, the Department of Consumer Affairs launched the Right to Repair Portal to help consumers easily access information and services for repairing and reusing their products
Objectives/Advantages of the Right to Repair Portal
- Reduce E-waste: Promotes sustainability by encouraging the repair and reuse of products, thereby reducing electronic waste.
- Safeguard Consumer Rights: Helps reduce the financial burden on consumers by providing access to repair information and services.
- Forward Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for the Environment): Supports Mission LiFE, which aims to replace a ‘use-and-dispose’ economy with a ‘circular economy’.
- R3 Concept: Mission LiFE incorporates the R3 concept—Reduce, Reuse (repair), and Recycle—promoting a more sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle.
