Location: Situated in Pabna District, Bangladesh, on the banks of the Padma River.

Developer: Built with Russian assistance under the leadership of Rosatom, a state-owned nuclear energy corporation of Russia.

Capacity:

    1. Comprises two VVER-1200 reactors (Water-Water Energetic Reactors).
    2. Total capacity: 2,400 MW (1,200 MW per reactor).

Fuel Supply:

    1. Russia will supply uranium fuel for the plant for its entire operational life.

Significance for Bangladesh:

    1. First Nuclear Power Plant: Marks Bangladesh’s entry into nuclear energy.
    2. Aims to meet rising electricity demand and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.
    3. Contributes to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy).
