UNSC REFORM AND TERRORISM MEETING

  • External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will visit New York to participate in two high-level ministerial meetings at the UN Security Council on December 14 and 15.
  • The meetings will take up reforms in the UN Security Council and the global counter-terror campaign. During the visit, he will unveil a bust of Mahatma Gandhi on the UN premises.
  • “The high-level ministerial open debate on December 14 is on the theme of ‘New Orientation for Reformed Multilateralism’ [NORMS] and the high-level briefing on December 15 is on ‘Global Approach to Counter Terrorism – Challenges and Way Forward’. Both these themes have been key priorities for India during its current tenure at the UN Security Council,” the Ministry of External Affairs said. Mr. Jaishankar will also interact with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from UNSC member countries.
