Scheme Overview:
- Launched: Union Budget 2022-23 (ongoing till 2025-26)
- Target: Border villages along the northern borders of India (Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh)
- Focus: Comprehensive development of these villages to improve living standards and curb outmigration.
- Funding: Centrally Sponsored Scheme with a budget of ₹4,800 crores.
Key Objectives:
- Improved Infrastructure: Develop essential infrastructure like all-weather roads, reliable electricity (including solar and wind power), better connectivity (mobile & internet), and access to clean drinking water.
- Livelihood Generation: Promote economic drivers based on local resources (agriculture, horticulture, tourism, cultural heritage) through skill development, entrepreneurship initiatives, and “One Village-One Product” approach.
- Social Development: Enhance access to healthcare, education, and social welfare programs.
