What is ONOS?
The “One Nation One Subscription” (ONOS) scheme is a government initiative aimed at providing free access to scholarly journals and research articles for students, teachers, and researchers across India.
Objective of ONOS
- Equal Access to Knowledge: To bridge the gap in access to quality academic resources, particularly for those in smaller institutions and remote areas.
- Fostering Research and Innovation: To encourage research and innovation by providing access to the latest research and knowledge.
- Enhancing India’s Global Research Presence: To improve India’s visibility in global research communities by providing access to international journals.
Key Features of ONOS
- Centralized Digital Platform: A user-friendly digital platform will provide access to over 12,999 high-impact e-journals from 30 leading international publishers.
- Wide Reach: The scheme will benefit over 1.8 crore students, faculty, and researchers across 6,300 government-funded institutions.
- Government Funding: The scheme is being funded by the Department of Higher Education (DHE) with a budget of Rs. 6,000 Crore for the years 2025-27.
