PRELIMS BITS
The Green Hydrogen Hub (GHH) project was launched in Pudimadaka, Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh, as part of India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission. This marks India’s first integrated green hydrogen production facility, aimed at enhancing renewable energy capacity and achieving net-zero goals by 2070.
Project Overview:
- Location: 1,600 acres near the Bay of Bengal, 2 km from the coast.
- Partners: Andhra Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation (NREDCAP) and NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL).
- Investment: ₹1,84,700 crore, with significant investment planned for 2027.
Capacity and Production:
- Green Hydrogen Production: 1,500 tonnes per day (TPD).
- Derivatives: 7,500 TPD of green methanol, green urea, and sustainable aviation fuel.
- The project will primarily focus on export markets.
Infrastructure Development:
- A green chemical zone with a capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
- Additional facilities: chemical storage terminal, 7 GW substation, and 80 million litres per day (MLD) desalination plant.
- Completion target: 2032.
Employment and Economic Impact:
- Expected to generate over 57,000 jobs by 2032.
- Will contribute to regional economic growth and support India’s energy independence.
Environmental Impact:
