GS 3 – SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Context: Union Minister of State for Environment launched ‘Nano Bubble Technology’ for cleaning and purifying water at the National Zoological Park, Delhi.
About Nano Bubble Technology
Nanobubbles: These are extremely small bubbles, measuring between 70-120 nanometers, which is 2,500 times smaller than a single grain of salt.
Nanobubbles possess a strong negative surface charge, preventing them from coalescing, and enabling them to physically separate small particles and droplets such as emulsified fats, oils, and grease from water.
The hydrophobic nature of nanobubbles, combined with their surface charge, helps lift both organic and inorganic materials from surfaces, similar to the action of surfactants.
Applications of Nano Bubble Technology
- Water Purification
- Agriculture (Enhancing oxygenation of irrigation water)
- Healthcare
- Food Industry
- Industrial Cleaning
