GS 3 – SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

The National Geospatial Mission is an initiative aimed at modernizing land records and enhancing urban planning across India. It will leverage the PM Gati Shakti framework to build a strong geospatial infrastructure and database, enabling better planning and execution of infrastructure projects.

Key Objectives:

  • Addressing Land Issues – Resolving long-standing challenges related to land disputes and inefficient land use that have hindered regional growth.
  • Enhancing Geospatial Infrastructure – Developing a comprehensive geospatial database to improve the efficiency and transparency of land reforms.
  • Supporting Private & Public Sectors – Encouraging government agencies and private stakeholders, such as geospatial and drone companies, by increasing demand for geospatial services.

  • Geospatial data refers to information linked to specific locations on the Earth’s surface, crucial for mapping, urban planning, and land management.
