Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, including Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and Predictive Analytics, are being harnessed to modernize judicial processes, legal research, and law enforcement in India.
AI’s Role in Judiciary and Law Enforcement
- Judicial Modernization: Phase III of the e-Courts Project uses AI to improve case management, organization, and research, predicting delays using analytics.
- Legal Translation and Accessibility: AI tools have translated 31,000 Supreme Court judgments into 16 regional languages, available on the e-SCR portal.
- Law Enforcement and Crime Prevention:
- Predictive Policing: AI analyzes crime patterns, high-risk zones, and criminal behavior.
- Surveillance and Investigation: Facial recognition integrates with national crime databases like CCTNS, e-Prisons, and e-Forensics.
Future Prospects
AI will drive legal research, secure case records with blockchain, enhance judicial transparency via analytics, and strengthen cybersecurity in law enforcement.
