Context :

ISRO actively engages students across India through educational programs to foster awareness and interest in space science.

  1. YUVIKA – Young Scientist Programme
  • Objective:
    • Provides basic knowledge of space science, technology, and applications to young students.
    • Aims to “Catch them young” and encourage STEM careers.
  • Target Group:
    • 9th-grade students (as of January 1 of the selection year).
    • Preference is given to rural students.
  • Selection Criteria:
    • Academic performance.
    • Participation in science fairs, Olympiads, and extracurricular activities.
    • In case of a tie, priority is given to younger candidates.
  • Participation:
    • Three students from each state/UT, ensuring nationwide representation (CBSE, ICSE & state boards).
  • Program Structure:
    • Two-week residential training with:
      • Hands-on sessions.
      • Expert talks.
      • Facility visits.
      • Interactive discussions with scientists.
  • Significance:
    • Encourages students to pursue careers in STEM fields.
  1. Space Tutor Program
  • Objective:
    • Promotes space science awareness through schools, NGOs & STEM educators.
  • Target Group:
    • Schools, colleges & universities collaborating with ISRO.
  • Activities:
    • Organizes exhibitions, lectures, and student workshops.
  • Reach:
    • Over 5,000 students engaged in Uttar Pradesh alone through registered Space Tutors.
  1. Space on Wheels
  • What is it?
    • A mobile exhibition bus equipped with space-themed exhibits.
  • Objective:
    • Brings space science closer to students & the general public.
  • Target Group:
    • Schools and the general public.
