The Government of India has released operational guidelines for implementing the ‘Incentives to DISCOMs’ component under the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, a scheme introduced by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Objectives of the Scheme
The initiative seeks to expand solar rooftop capacity and enable residential households to generate their own electricity, promoting energy self-sufficiency.
Key Benefits
- Free Electricity: 1 crore households will receive 300 units of electricity per month at no cost.
- Subsidies for Solar Panels: Financial support will be provided to help residents install solar panels.
- Easy Loan Access: The government will facilitate access to bank loans for purchasing solar panels.
- Income Generation: Households can sell excess power to local DISCOMs, creating an additional source of income.
