The World Economic Forum (WEF) has released the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Network 2023-2024 Impact Report, which highlights significant initiatives like the use of drones for healthcare delivery in India and how innovation can address global challenges.

Key Highlights of the Report

  • Seven Core Thematic Areas: The report focuses on research and impact generation in areas such as the Intelligent Age, agriculture, health and biotechnology, and the energy transition.
  • Impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR):
    • Improved Transportation: Integrating autonomous mobility into national transport systems can reduce traffic accidents, enhance transport efficiency, and create jobs, as demonstrated in Saudi Arabia.
    • Alternative Proteins: Initiatives aim to develop innovative protein sources like plant-based and cultivated proteins to ensure food security.
    • Improving Farmers’ Lives: The Saagu Baagu pilot program in Telangana, involving 7,000 chili farmers, showed that agricultural technology can significantly boost farmer incomes and reduce the environmental impact of farming.

India’s Initiatives for Industrial Revolution 4.0

  • AI for India 2030 Initiative: Led by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
  • Artificial Intelligence for Agricultural Innovation (A14AI): A collaboration between the World Economic Forum and the Ministry of Agriculture.
  • National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems (NM-ICPS): Implemented by the Department of Science & Technology to enhance startups, human resources, and skill sets in emerging areas.
