Context:
- The Erra Matti Dibbalu (Red Sand Dunes) near Visakhapatnam–Bheemunipatnam Beach Road, Andhra Pradesh, have been included in the Tentative List of UNESCO Natural Heritage Sites.
 
About Erra Matti Dibbalu:
- Meaning: “Erra Matti Dibbalu” translates to Red Sand Hills/Dunes in Telugu.
 - Formation:
- Geological formations believed to be around 18,000–20,000 years old.
 - Formed due to aeolian (wind-driven) activity and subsequent natural processes.
 
 - Location: About 20 km from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
 - Significance:
- Unique quaternary geological formations.
 - Important for studies on paleoclimate, monsoon evolution, and coastal geomorphology.
 - Among the 34 notified National Geo-Heritage Monuments of India by the Geological Survey of India (GSI).
