The Supreme Court has recently directed the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) to assess the impact of nearby glass industries on the Taj Mahal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

About the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI)

The CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) is a research body established by the Government of India. Founded in 1958 and based in Nagpur, the institute was originally focused on issues like water supply, sewage disposal, and communicable diseases, along with addressing industrial pollution and occupational diseases prevalent in post-independence India.

NEERI is a leading institution in the field of environmental science and engineering, functioning as a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The institute’s core mission revolves around conducting research and development activities in areas related to environmental management, pollution control, and sustainable development.

NEERI operates under the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Indian government.
