NATIONAL TRIBAL HEALTH CONCLAVE 2025

GS1 INDIAN HERITAGE

The National Tribal Health Conclave 2025, organized under the Dharti Aaba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW), aims to address the unique health challenges faced by tribal communities.

Key healthcare issues for tribes include:

  • Geographical Remoteness: The difficult terrain of mountainous areas and dense forests hinders the establishment and maintenance of healthcare facilities.
  • Inadequate Infrastructure: Limited access to healthcare professionals in remote areas results in delayed diagnoses and improper treatments.
  • Language Barriers: A lack of health information in native languages impedes informed decision-making.
  • Cultural Sensitivity and Traditional Practices: Ignoring indigenous healing practices often leads to distrust and reluctance toward mainstream healthcare.

To address these challenges, several steps are being considered:

  • Strategic Roadmap Development: Creating a framework to enhance healthcare delivery in tribal regions, which could include initiatives like telemedicine and mobile medical units.
  • Inclusive Healthcare Models: Implementing culturally sensitive healthcare systems that respect and incorporate traditional tribal healing methods alongside modern practices.
  • Targeted Interventions: Developing specific interventions for managing rare diseases, mental health issues, addiction, malnutrition, reproductive health, and promoting traditional food practices.

Improvements in tribal health outcomes should be driven by the principles of Respect for tribal cultures, Relevance to their needs, Reciprocity through mutual learning, and Responsibility via active empowerment.
