GS 2 – Governance – Health

  • Objective: Accelerate the development and production of indigenous COVID-19 vaccines to ensure their availability, affordability, and accessibility in India.
  • Launch: Initiated by the Government of India in November 2020.
  • Funding: Allocated ₹900 crore for Phase I, spanning 12 months.
  • Implementation: Managed by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under the Ministry of Science & Technology, with the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) overseeing execution.
  • Achievements: Supported the development of multiple vaccine candidates, contributing to India’s vaccination efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mission Suraksha by Project Mumbai:

  • Objective: Assist individuals adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly those struggling to make ends meet.
  • Activities: Provided support to vulnerable populations, aiding the city’s administration in relief efforts during unprecedented times.
