It is some consolation to note that the Government of India seem, at any rate at present, to have realised the urgency as well as the importance of solving the food problem. They have decided to take over the control of the supply of food grains in the country and it is stated that Mr. M.M.S. Gubbay, the present Controller of Currency, who has had some experience of the Indian grain movements as Wheat Commissioner when wheat supplies were controlled on behalf of the Royal Commission on Wheat Supplies, is to be placed on special duty as the Controller of Food grains. We are not yet told as to what exactly will be the nature of the proposed control or as to the exact duties of Mr. Gubbay in his new office. Nor does it appear that the Government of India have come to any definite decision on the point.
