- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch Singapore’s TeLEOS-2 satellite.
- The launch will be carried out by the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV.
- TeLEOS-2 is an Earth Observation Satellite.
- In 2015, ISRO launched TeLEOS-1, the first Singapore commercial Earth Observation Satellite.
More about the satellite:
- TeLEOS 2 is a Singaporean SAR Earth Observation satellite.
- It is built by ST Electronics (Satellite Systems).
- The satellite is built on a bus based on the TeLEOS 1 optical earth observation satellite and is to operate in conjunction with this satellite.
- TeLEOS 2 carries a made-in-Singapore Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payload capable of providing 1 m resolution data.
- It will be equipped with a 500 Giga Bytes onboard recorder for recording the data captured and a high speed 800 Mbps down link.
Earth Observation Satellites
An Earth observation satellite also called Earth remote sensing satellite is a satellite designed for Earth observation (EO) from orbit. Applications: 1. Weather 2. Environmental monitoring 3. Mapping Geostationary orbit: · A geostationary orbit allows a satellite to hover over a constant spot on the earth. · The orbital period at this altitude is 24 hours. · This allows uninterrupted coverage of more than 1/3 of the Earth per satellite. · Three satellites, spaced 120° apart, can cover the whole Earth except the extreme polar regions. · This type of orbit is mainly used for meteorological satellites. |
